Long Tor and Lox Tor (the eponymous two tors) are situated on private land in the heart of Dartmoor, roughly half a mile east of Lustleigh and on the northern edge of Higher Knowle Woods. Access is by prior appointment only but the landowners are keen to share this hidden gem with the local community and anyone with a genuine interest in Dartmoor’s rich history and ecology.

Our vision for the land is going to take a huge amount of work and learning and we’d be delighted to hear from anyone with interesting news or information about either of the two tors or the surrounding land, and anyone with skills, equipment, or know-how that might help us preserve and enhance this unique and beautiful area.

Our goals are basically:

1. To provide a beautiful space for family, friends, and local people to meet, relax and enjoy nature

2. To protect and maintain the ancient Tors and other rocks, including the historic Old May Rock

3. To protect and maintain the ancient woodlands along with the diverse and vibrant ecosystem they support

4. To preserve, expand, and restore habitats for native flora and fauna, especially where humans have had a negative impact on the land
